Does anyone have any old spikes in the back of their wardrobe that they would like to donate to a good cause? Next wednesday Bemrose School are taking part in the City Sports at Moorways and as you can imagine the kids are going to be at an even greater disadvantage if they run in velcro trainers! A lot of our students even ran bare foot to qualify at the school trials, and although they do have some ability none of them are from Kenya so will get pasted if they do the same on wednesday. Any gesture would be most appreciated. Many thanks Rich Weir

National Junior League Telford Report |
|
Thursday, 25 June 2009 13:12 |
|
We were competing again last weekend the 14th June at Telford and for most of the match lay in third position. Unfortunately, some of the events couldn't be covered fully due to delays in getting to the venue, which meant a loss in points for the whole team. We had quite a few athletes missing from certain events and had to fill in where possible, showing great team work from all concerned.
There were a couple of outstanding performances:-
Judah Simpson performed the 100 metres in 11.00 seconds achieving English Schools standard; just 0.1 seconds off the National standard. Naomi Reid jumped 11.08 metres in Triple Jump achieving English Schools Standard; just 2 cms from achieving National standard.
Also, personal best performances for:-
Isaac Marshall in the Triple Jump with 12.55metres and; Ryan Winson in the Long Jump of 5 metres an event he normally would not do, as he is generally a thrower.
I am at present unaware of any other personal bests, so if I haven't mentioned anyone, I apologise.
We finished in a great flurry with three of our throwing ladies taking part in our 4 x 100 relay achieving an excellent time. All our relay teams worked very hard and gained the much needed points to keep the team in second place in the League.
At the moment the match wins are Stoke 2 - Derby 1 and we are looking forward to the next match at Stoke where we anticipate an even closer match, hoping to beat Stoke on their home ground. This should culminate in a thrilling Promotions Match on Sunday 30th August at Moorways with everyone welcome to attend and cheer us on.
Thanks to everyone involved; Athletes, Officials and Coaches; without whom we couldn't compete or hold these events.

He ran 3.52.69 to Weirs 3.53.14. 3rd was Tim Egerton from Trafford in 3.55.17.
Chris Davison ( 4.08.09 ), Martin Booth ( 4.11.34 pb ), John Knibb ( 4.24.16 ) and Ian Stevens ( 4.33.92 ) all went out in the heats.
In the 3k steeplechase Dave Westbury lead from gun to tape and took the title in a seasons best 9.16.76. Alex Pilcher, who has been suffering with injuries this season and not yet back to his best, ran a very gutsy race to take the bronze medal in 9.35.44.
In the 800m Martin Booth completed a fine individual weekend with another pb in 2.02.67. And Tom Offord ran a lifetime best in his heat in 2.01.04
